Michael Gonzales | Principal

Michael is the principal and design lead at Protolab. Michael's work and research is centered on emerging techniques in computation, technology, and digital fabrication. He received his M.S. in Advanced Architectural Design from the Columbia University GSAPP and his B.Arch from the University of Houston. He has worked for Metalab, Janusz Design, and EMBT Architects in Barcelona,Spain where he was part of the competition team focused on the digital design and formal development of the Spanish Pavilion for the Shanghai World Expo 2010. Michael is currently an Instructional Associate Professor at the University of Houston College of Architecture and Design

Mario Medina Vilela | Computational Designer

Mario is a computational and architectural designer at Protolab. He is interested in researching how design, technology, and science work together to develop new fabrication processes. Mario completed his M.Sc. in Architectural Computation from the Bartlett School of Architecture where he embarked on a journey to learn how computational tools can automate, optimize, and enhance the design process. He also has a B.Arch from the University of Houston College of Architecture and Design. Mario has previously worked for Pickard Chilton Architects in New Haven, Ct. and Houston based residential builder Frankel Building Group.
